 There’s nothing better than having “America’s greatest living naturalist” as your lab partner in high school biology. Scotty followed his muse like no one I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. He lives for nature and he writes vividly. If you care about the environment and believe in preserving the world as we know it, read this book.

 At one time, I dreamed of writing “the great coal region novel.” John O’Hara wrote great novels, but for me, they never chronicled the essence of the locale. Neither does THE FOURTH HOUSE, for that matter. THIS is the great coal region novel. Required reading.

 “Professor Sue” is a fantastic memoirist and mentor to those wishing to learn the craft. Five Men Who Broke My Heart takes the trip down memory lane we all wish we had the time and the nerve to do: track down and visit our lost loves and try to figure out what the hell happened.

The anthracite coal fields of eastern Pennsylvania tip their hat to the bituminous mines of the west -- or west of Philadelphia meets east of Pittsburgh. Tawni is funny, plotty, descriptive, and draws you into her world. We seem to cover a lot of the same territory in our writing, which makes me a big fan. Buy Here: |
